Raked piles that require a weld prep had always been cut manually due to the geometric complexities associated with the angle of the pile. A typical manual cut and weld prep of a raked pile of around 1.2 metre diameter takes around 8 hours. On some jetty construction projects, pile cutting is a critical path activity.
A track mounted automated cutting machine with a non-invasive clamp for attaching to the pile. The positioning of the cutting tip is computer controlled to ensure it follows the (vertical and horizontal) path required. A raked pile of around 1.2 metre diameter can be cut and weld prepped in 1 hour using the Automated Pile Cutter.
This is the only machine in the world that can do automated cutting and weld prep of raked piles.
